What We Do

In His Loving Hand endeavors to offer a clear understanding of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe that Gospel includes his commands to alleviate poverty. We endeavor to do that through education and vocational training, thus empowering youth to be self-reliant. Our efforts are intended to teach young people caught in poverty, to spread their wings and fly like an eagle into a future full of hope, peace, and prosperity.

Elementary Schools and Adult Literacy Programs

Students recieve instruction at IHLH's first school. We have founded and continue to support schools for disadvantaged students in two poor communities of Abidjan. Our two Noah's Ark schools include one in Abidjan's shantytown called Gobelé (one of its three classrooms pictured at right) and a shack in Biabou, which we hope to replace next year. Enrollment for the 2007 - 2008 school year is 526 students in kindergarten to fifth grade levels.

New classrooms were constructed during the summer at our Noah's Ark center in Gobelé to accommodate the 100 new students who enrolled this year. We also have 100 more students in our learning center in Biabou. We are proud that many who have finished the highest level of our schools have skipped a grade when they entered public school.

Noah's Ark centers also offer evening adult literacy classes.

Young women learn to sew at Biabou's three-year sewing school.

Sewing School

86 young women are attending In His Loving Hand's sewing school, which was founded in 2000 in a poor community on the outskirts of Abidjan. Five classes of young ladies have already graduated from the three-year program.

The school needs more sewing machines and more space to accommodate more students.

Next year we hope to have the funds to construct a sewing production center.

Humanitarian Aid

harvesting cabbages In His Loving Hand's humanitarian programs focus on helping the poor and needy, especially children, youth, orphans, widows, and HIV/AIDS victims in two of Abidjan's largest communities.

Our financial aid provides for:
  • Food
  • Medicine and surgeries
  • Fees for Vocational Training (hairstyling, computers)
  • Transportation, school supplies for high school students
  • Assistance to start micro-enterprises, such as the successful cultivation and marketing of a cabbage project (pictured) for a group of AIDS victims.

    Our Soccer Team: Building Character

The after-school soccer program is a major influence in the moral and character development for these at-risk teenagers. More than mere exercise, they learn values about working as a team, setting goals, and winning through fair play. Rather than succumbing to the way things are done on the streets in the slums, they have a chance to become men of integrity, commitment, perseverance, and to have a successful future.

The importance of our supporting these soccer players cannot be overemphasized. The game is very popular, and some of the boys dream of becoming professionals. We have tapped into this love of the game to instill important values.

We support about 100 teenage soccer players in a poor community north of Abidjan. We're proud that the team competes at the intercity level and are registered at the national level. The team relies on our support to pay for registration fees, uniforms, transportation and other expenses. The team's coach is also one of the elementary school teachers.

You can read the testimony of one of the boys on the Testimonials page.
